music is life, music is breath, music is us

Fitz and the Tantrums- “Don’t Gotta Work It Out”

Fitz and the Tantrums are a soul/indie pop band that originates from Los Angeles, CA (my home city). They have a sound that takes influence from Motown groups, but also a unique sound of their own. They are fairly new, and they are one of my favorite recent groups to come out of the woodwork.

  1. I like this ! And I bet they’re great live. There are some sounds that really grab me in popular music when they’re well used- baritone sax is one ( being a music student you’ll be aware of Mark Sandman’s work with Morphine ) and mariachi trumpets, all add subtle colour. Nice one.

  2. They are great live, check out their performances on late night entertainment programs and you’ll see. I was randomly watching MTV (which I really don’t do on account of the lack of good music nowadays), and this song came up. Really great stuff.

  3. Your blog left me wanting to hear them – live of course. I’m into live music. 🙂 My next piece of live music is a classical piano recital later this evening. Opposite end of the music spectrum stuff. Very conventional. I have catholic tastes in music.
