music is life, music is breath, music is us

Alter Bridge-“One By One (Live)”

Alter Bridge is one of those modern bands that restores your faith in modern music. This song is a personal one for me, as I come from a long line of military service (my great-grandfathers served in the trenches in World War 1, my great-great uncle was killed in the attack on Pearl Harbor, and my grandfather and his brother served in the Korean War). I have seen the effects of war all around me, through the eyes of my close friend who had to dodge bullets and mortar rounds in Afghanistan, to another friend whose cousin lost his mind from the violence serving as a tank operator in Iraq. Whatever your politics are, always remember the people caught in the middle of war, be it civilians or soldiers, as they face hell every single day. As for the governments, who knows what they believe. Then again, as Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Chris Hedges said, “The rush of battle is often a potent and lethal addiction, for war is a drug.”
