music is life, music is breath, music is us

The Verve-“Lucky Man” (my cover)

I’m 23, and the last time I sang in front of anyone willingly was in like the 3rd grade. As a music major I had to sing for a grade every week, and that was freakin’ brutal (my musicianship teacher was a drill sergeant in many ways and only further instilled how much I feared singing in public). I’m a composer and guitarist, not a singer, but I always liked singing alone. I always thought about what it’d be like in a rock band (since I am a rock musician), and actually handling the lead vocals. This is me testing the waters so to speak. Of course I had to go and pick a song that is more popular than anything I could ever hope to write (not to mention Bono himself said he wished he wrote this track). Richard Ashcroft’s music is an inspiration to me, and I guess I had to pick something to connect with. My voice is raw, unfiltered and not professionally trained. Last thing I could ever want is being put in the “worst singers on Youtube” lists, but I had to step out of my comfort zone. If you hate it, you hate it. I just had to do this, for me. Besides my singing I play one of the guitars here. Well, here goes nothing. Down in flames? Only time will tell.
