music is life, music is breath, music is us

Brand New-“Me vs Maradona vs Elvis” (my cover)

Brand New has always been one of my favorite bands. One of the poignant things about their music is that they aren’t afraid to explore the damaged, broken side of the human psyche. This is the darkest song I’ve ever covered (I do lead vox, play all guitar parts and play drums here), but it explores the idea of loneliness and desperation. It explores how depraved of real love we can get, making us only wanting to use someone to fulfill some massive hole in our emotional makeup.

  1. Although I’m an older person I do like this ‘off the wall’ music and the simple instruments. Vocals are great too. Simplicity has a lot of impact on us listeners. Listening to this I feel tugs at my heart but not in a bad way. So this music ‘connects’ soul to soul. I feel JDM would like this one too.

    • Thanks, that means a lot. I remember hearing this song at age 14 and I loved the sound, but couldn’t connect to the lyrics. Now that I’m 23, I get the lyrics.
