Songs from my college years: Salif Keita “Souareba”

I was introduced to Salif early in college. Wanda Bryant (an ethnomusicologist who became a mentor to me) was a teacher at Pasadena City College and played Keita’s song Souareba for the class. I left the song on repeat in my iTunes frequently after that. The man has one of the most powerful voices, he really doesn’t even need a microphone.
